Admission to the Junior Academy

Procedures

Kindergarten - Grade 1 Applicants
For those parents who wish to proceed with registration for Kindergarten to Grade one, a date for a classroom visit will be scheduled. Visiting students are placed in their current grade level and are expected to take part in class activities. Registration takes place during the fall term (September – December) and is on a first-come basis. Following our re-registration in the winter term, additional spaces may become available in March.

Grades 2 – 5 Applicants
Students applying for Grades two to five are given an entrance assessment by one of the school’s resource staff to evaluate their levels of academic achievement in the core subject areas of Language Arts and Mathematics. The tests are administered during a full day visit to the school.

Grades 6 – 8 Applicants
Student interviews and assessments may be scheduled at the same time as the parent appointment or arranged for a later date. Copies of previous report cards will be requested prior to a student visit.

If appropriate, an ‘Offer of Placement’ will be forwarded to the applicant, in writing, following the classroom visit and receipt of the information requested.
