1.
A WELL ROUNDED AND CHALLENGING CURRICULUM:
The
Junior Academy's excellent academic curriculum is supported
by programs in Art, Music and Computer Technology. Its
extensive Physical Education program is enriched by special
activities such as skating, downhill skiing, and swimming.
Although the Junior Academy's curriculum follows the guidelines
and objectives established by the Ontario Ministry of
Education, it also sets standards in many subjects that
encourage its students to attain a level of achievement
beyond these guidelines.
2.
STUDENTS ADVANCE AT THEIR 'OWN RATE':
In
order to keep students motivated and enthusiastic about
learning each child is encouraged to advance at his or
her own rate and is not restricted by the arbitrary limitations
of chronological age and grade placement.
3.
SMALLER CLASSES ENSURE INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION FOR EACH CHILD:
The
smaller school setting and the low pupil-teacher ratio
at the Junior Academy combine to provide an ideal environment
in which each student can develop a high level of self
esteem and become a self confident and motivated learner.
In addition, the teacher has the opportunity to individualize
or adapt the program to provide enrichment or remediation
as required.
4.
ESTABLISHING A FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT:
The
well qualified and experienced teachers at the Junior
academy are responsible for the effective implementation
of the school's curriculum and educational philosophy.
It is during elementary school that attitudes towards
learning are formed and the foundation of skills and study
habits that will ensure future academic achievement are
established. Teachers at the Junior Academy are committed
to a philosophy that emphasizes the importance of providing
an environment that will ensure a successful learning
experience for each child. Students are encouraged to
strive for a high level of academic achievement, to mature
socially and emotionally and to realize the motto of the
Junior Academy 'Committed to Individual Excellence' in
all aspects of their lives.
